This is my attempt to inform our clients, and others who are interested, about updates, changes, and improvements to the Piestar system. We asked our current clients what they would like to know and when they would like to know it. The majority answered, stating they would like to know about updates, changes, and improvements to the Piestar system once a month.
Here, I provide a list of updates, changes, and improvements to the Piestar system, along with explanations.
Unique Request IDs
We have a new way to reference travel and equipment requests. Each travel and equipment request has a 5-digit alpha-numeric identification value that begins with a ‘T’ or an ‘E’ to demonstrate if the request is a travel request (T) or an equipment request (E). For example, a travel request has a 5-digit alpha-numeric identification value that looks like this: T00084. An equipment request has a 5-digit alpha-numeric identification value that looks like this: E00059.
Contact Widget for Modules
We have a new way to report individuals in modules. This can be seen in the publications/presentations module, but can be added to other modules by request. Instead of personnel entering a list of names into a text box, information can be entered per person and the Piestar system will add that to the contact database. Using this, the Piestar system can now autocomplete the individual contact’s information every time the information is reported.
Domestic and International Travel
We now have support for submitting domestic travel requests. This was designed to track in-country management team travel. If someone has the ability to submit domestic travel, there is a field on the travel request module for either Domestic or International. If Domestic is chosen, the module will show different fields than the option for international travel.
It’s now easy to select a citation format for each project and export publication data cited in the selected format. The Citation Format is chosen within Settings, under Projects. Once there, the Citation Format can be selected for APA style or Chicago Style, under the Other Information option.
Rich Text for Modules
We now have a rich text editor option for module fields. With the rich text editor, personnel can now use a variety of formatting options when entering information, such as headers, bold text, and ordered lists. We have added word count to qualitative text boxes, and now demonstrate the character counts of the text fields.
